Eli and Lucy are playing together a little better but also a little rougher.  Lucy is starting to be a little more assertive and will kind of sort of wrestle with Eli.  The other night they were rocking in Big Daddy’s recliner and having a good time until………..Lucy tried to bite Eli.  She was trying hard and I thought it was a little humorous, but Eli wasn’t feeling the humor in it.  I have to say I don’t blame him.  So far no bites, just threats or close calls.   I thinks she just likes the way he reacts to her trying.

Mr Policeman

February 25, 2009

In the previous post I talked about my Mema’s birthday party.  One of my cousins is a cop and he stopped by to say Happy Birthday.  Eli was very fascinated by him being there.  When Eli realized that not only was there a policeman in our house, but a real policecar outside, he asked me if he could see inside the car.  We walked Todd out and he let Eli turn all his different lights on and off and sit in his lap in the drivers seat.  He thought that was pretty darn cool.  It was a good night for Eli, he got to eat sweets for dinner AND play in a cop car.  How often does that happen? 🙂

Mema’s 82nd Birthday Party

February 25, 2009

Sunday was my Mema’s 82nd birthday.  To celebrate my mom had family over to her house for Belgian waffles with several topping options, sausage and an angelfood cake to top it off.  A good time was had by all.  Happy Birthday, Mema.  We look forward to your 83rd.

Happy Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2009

We are happy to report that Lucy seems to be getting better.  Yesterday afternoon we were still concerned and called our doctor.  She recommended we go to the Children’s Hospital after hours pediatric clinic.  We called about 5pm and they had an appt open for 8:30 last night.  AS SOON as we made the appt Lu started to perk up a bit.  She didn’t spike any fever and was seeming pretty normal, but we went anyway with the attitude that it is better to be safe than sorry.  So, it all turned out fine and we were in and out of there within 45 minutes.  Eli stayed with Nana last night, so this morning we went over there to pick him up and open some valentine presents.  They were both in such a good mood!  They got books and a couple of outfits.  I found these suckers that are attached to huge lips. Eli had fun with it, but Lucy was not having it 🙂  So I put hers in and took some pics, too.  Hope everyone is enjoying their day.

viral pneumonia

February 13, 2009

Lucy seemed a little off a week ago today.  Initially we thought it was just a 24 hour bug.  It seemed to have left by Sat, but reappeared Sunday night.  By Monday night she spiked a fever.  Tuesday we decided it was time to see the doctor.  We went in Wed to see the doctor and ended up having a few tests done to rule things out and some x-rays.  We went back in Wed to recheck her white blood cells and decided it was viral and should run its course.  The fever only went away when she was on Tylenol or Ibuprofen.  This morning she woke up cranky and seemed uncomfortable.  We decided to go back to the doctor, got more blood drawn, more x-rays and the diagnoses: viral pneumonia.  It has been a loooong week.  Really it hadn’t been too bad, except trying to balance a sick 18month old and attention needy 3year old.  So, if this diagnoses is correct, we should be on the down hill end of all this.  Say a little pray for our baby girl.  We love all the snuggle time, but it is so hard to see her sick. 😦  Tonight my parents came by to see the kiddos and she slept hard on Big Daddy’s chest the whole time.  Sad, but sweet.

Get well soon baby girl.

While Lucy was snoozing Eli was busy turning in circles and bouncing off the walls!  He read us all a couple of stories, too.  It was really sweet.  He read Polar Bear, Polar Bear and then this book called Polo we got from the library.  There are only like 2 words the whole book, it is a story told by pictures that you make up the words for and we have done that more times than we really care to, so the other day Nathan asked Eli to read it to him.  It was precious.  So we requested that he read it again tonight and he accepted. As much as he enjoyed reading to all of us, he still loves to be read to, so Nana read him the last book before bedtime.

Such a smart & precious little boy.  We got him reading on video, but I have no idea how to put that on here, so I will wait for Nathan 🙂

***Please ignore the laundry in the background.  I have a hard time keeping up my household when my kids are well, so you can imagine how behind I might get when I don’t get my “mom’s day out” days due to sick kids.  I love those days and when I don’t get them I realize how much I take them forgranted ***

During Lucy’s nap yesterday Eli and I sat down to work on Valentine cards together.  He asked for a pen and started what I assumed was scribble scrabble.  He said “Look mommy!  A square!” and I look and he had drawn a square!!!  He did it all on his own with no help from me.  I was so impressed.  I knew that he knew his shapes, but had no idea he could draw them without any guidance.  Anyway, as any proud momma with a camera, I took a picture.  The one on paper is the one I just talked about and then right after our craft session we went out on the drive way and used sidewalk chalk.  It was so refreshing to go outside and play.

239We have been hanging out at Nana and Big Daddy’s this evening and after the kiddos went to bed I have helped my mom with a few things on the computer.  One of the task we had was to empty her camera of it’s 300 pictures by transferring them to her computer.  In the process I obviously got to look at quiet a few.  One thing I already knew, but really noticed in the pics is how much Lucy loves the camera.  We don’t have to ask her to do it, she just sees the camera and cheeses.  I thought it would be fun to post the handful mom had stashed on her camera.

books

February 11, 2009

For years I thought I didn’t really enjoy reading as much as I would like, but that all changed toward the end of last year.  Nathan had been reading a book that he really liked and really wanted me to read.  He finished it while on a business trip that I happen to be on with him.  I was flying out 1 day early, so I took the book to read as I traveled home.  It was sooo good!  I was so glad I read it.  It helped that I had quite a few hours to dedicate to reading without any interuptions from my kiddos or normal everyday things at home 🙂  I highly recommend it.

Not long after I finished Blessed Child a friend suggested I read My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Piccoult.  I didn’t really think I would be in to it, but since she lent it to me I thought I should try it out.  I couldn’t get enough.  I really enjoy her style of writing.  Again, I would recommend this book, for sure.  I believe they are making a movie based on this book.

After enjoying that one so much I decided to try out another one by Piccoult.  I decided on Change of Heart.  Same thing, I could hardly put it down.  It had a few parts that were a little slow, but overall I connected with characters and it challenged my thinking.

And the last book I want to share about on here is one I am currently reading with a group of moms.  I didn’t really expect it to challenge me, but it most certainly has done just that.  I have really enjoyed it.  It is Crazy Love by Francis Chan

Well, I guess that is it for now.  I hope to read more and more in the future.  We have cancelled our Dish Network.  bye bye DVR 😦  You will be missed, but I can’t help but feel like we need a break from you.  We replaced that with a cheaper and fun alternative.  Netflix offers a deal where you get one dvd at a time and can watch unlimited shows, movies, documentaries, etc. online for less than $10 a month.  I have felt convicted for some time now to downsize our tv count in the house and how much we have access to.  After sharing this with Nathan and talking about it many times, we came to the conclusion I talked about above.  So, my hope is to spend more time in the Word and reading more books.  God help me.

Happy Reading to you all!!!!!

Game time

February 11, 2009

Tonight we hung out at Nana and Big Daddy’s house to celebrate BD’s birthday a little early.  Eli got several games for his birthday and Christmas and he loves to play them.  We decided tonight was a good time to break them out 🙂

And with all the pretty weather in the last week or so we were able to break out an outdoor game we got for Christmas, ladderball.  Eli has his own set of rules and he always wins.  But that is with any game 🙂  It was very refreshing to get outdoors and actually enjoy it.  It was a much over due treat for our whole family.

potty book

February 1, 2009

I came across this book by accident when looking for another book at the library.  I feel it is one of the best books we have read since we started the whole potty training business.  Apparently there is an adult one and one for kids.  We have the one for kids.  I’m guessing the adult one is a guide for potty training?  Anyway, just thought I would tell you about it.
