A couple of days ago I took the kids to Sam’s to shop.  We were passing by the flowers and I stopped to admire them.  Eli asked if we could get some, and I told him we couldn’t buy any that day.  Fast forward to this afternoon, Nathan and Eli went to the grocery store to pick up some items for dinner.  As they were walking by the floral department Eli informed Nathan that they needed to buy flowers for me. (awwww)  They picked out some beautiful tulips.  It was so precious to see E  get out of the car with flowers for me.  And I was impressed that he remembered that I like flowers.  It definitely made my week!

Zoo fun

March 17, 2009

Eli and Lucy’s Gramma Gari came to town a few days ago.  We have been playing and having a good time, but dern it has been cold.  So when we checked the weather for today and it said the high was 70 we decided we should hit the LR Zoo.  It was a nice day to go.  The wind was borderline chilly, but not really and once the sun came out it was perfect.  Eli went to the zoo last week with his Aunt Tarah and has talked about it a lot since their visit in the past week.  He was super excited to go and show us all the animals.  He carried the map around all morning and helped guide our tour.  We really should get a family pass, I think my kids would love the opportunity to go to the zoo regularly.  I don’t have any stories to tell really, but I do have pictures 🙂

At lunch Eli got under our table and pretended to be various animals.  In this picture he is a bear.  Lucy wanted in on the action and began giving us her best roar.

another first for Lucy

March 17, 2009

It’s funny how things change as you add more children to the mix.  With Eli, being the first child, I was able to set up an activity and get him going and then have a mini photo shoot to document whatever first or cute thing he was doing.  I have learned with 2 it doesn’t always go so smoothly 🙂 I haven’t been able to catch certain activities on film for Lucy like I have for Eli.  Example, she had her first haircut the other day and I have no pictures.  Our friend came to our house and cut Eli and Lucy’s  hair in our driveway and I didn’t document it at all!  I know it’s not the end of the world or anything dramatic like that, but it makes me a tad bit sad.  I did manage to record Lucy using water colors for the first time. (yeah for me)  She really enjoyed herself way more than I would have thought.  I had to leave before she was done. so Nathan stepped in to supervise and by the time I returned she had painted her whole face.  What a nut!  Here are some snap shots from our art time a few days ago.

Congratulations!

A dear friend of mine recently got engaged!  Congrats to Rebekah and Cody!  I was a small group leader for Rebekah for her high school years (along with Elyse and Kaylee in the pictures below).  It has been so cool to keep in touch with them as they have gone off to college and now are starting to get married and such.  All of them have played such important roles in my life.  It has been a joy to be a part of their journeys and have them be a part of mine.  It seems unreal that they are old enough to even talk about marriage!! 🙂  Crazy!  Rebekah & Cody, may God bless and guide you as you begin this new chapter of life.

tonight at bedtime E and I were having one of our nightly talks.  I asked E “How are you?”  he replied “Bad” and I asked him”why bad?” and he didn’t skip a beat in responding “cause I’m not good”.  Then we both laughed.  He is too funny.  Another conversation: This morning I was telling Eli that one of our friends was going to come to our house to cut his hair after MDO.  Since he has never got his haircut outside of a salon  he said to me “But we don’t even have a chair!”  He keeps me entertained.  I’m constantly amazed at how his little mind is changing.

Out like a light

This past weekend was full of fun.  One of the days Eli was so tired that he couldn’t even finish his book at naptime.  We found him like this.

So precious.

bouncy chairs

March 11, 2009

We have more than a few toys around our house to play with, but somehow my kids just love the bouncy chairs!  Our green one was a hand down and after being used for 4 kiddos over the years, it no longer vibrates.  Recently we have had the privaledge to have a special small visitor in our home and decided it was time to replace the nonfunctioning one.  All that being said Lucy LOVES to curl up in the new chair and will even attempt to cover herself with her blanket.  The other day Eli wanted to get in on the fun so we pulled out the green one and they both were entertained for a good little bit.  E was a little confused as to why his laid down and didn’t really bounce like Lucy’s bounced.  It couldn’t be because he weighs close to 40lbs could it?!? 🙂  It was a really sweet moment.

Christmas in February

March 5, 2009

Eli’s Great Gran bought him a ginger bread house kit with the intentions of making it during our visit for Christmas.  It was so busy, I guess she forgot, so a few weeks ago, when Eli went to visit her, she gave him the kit.  He came home so excited about this house he was going to make.  He asked about it everyday till we finally found a time when Lucy would be asleep and we could get to work.  Those kits are work!  I guess I’ve never made one before, or at least that I can remember.  It was tricky keeping the icing in the bag and keeping the walls up long enough to let the icing set.  It was a rough start, but he didn’t notice.  He had a blast decorating it.  His excitement made it worth the effort.  Thanks for a great memory Great Gran!!
