potty training! Sounds fun, huh. Riiighhtt. So, Eli is definitely smart enough. He has been asking to have his diaper changed after pooing for some time. In the past he has “gone” peepee on the potty two different times, so we are dedicating the next several days to potty training. No more diapers, except at night. It is quite a task! Today is our official first day. Nathan has been home with him all morning and has made great effort to work potty talk into everything they have been doing. When Lucy and I got home we got to see a masterpiece that daddy made. Here is a picture:
Can you make sense of it?? Let me help you out. To the left is Lucy sitting on the potty. Straight across is Daddy sitting on the side of the tub. In the tub you will find playdough versions of their sharks that they play with during bathtime. Toward the back in the middle, well that would be me holding Eli in my lap. Eli told me that we are cheering for Lucy sitting on the potty 🙂
Wish us luck! We need it. I have promised Eli that when he poos in the potty we will bake a cake and celebrate!!! (tmi?) If you have any tips of things that worked for your potty training days, please share them.

Lately it is not uncommon to find Lucy quietly playing in her room with her babies. I pulled out a couple of beds that were mine growing up and put them in her room with some baby blankets. She will go in there on her own and put them in their bed and take them out and put them in, and on and on. It is very sweet.
bowling ball?

Eli has on sweat pants that are just a tad too big. I have been pulling them up over and over this morning and finally I decided I needed to roll the pant legs up.
Me: Eli, come here and let me roll up your pants so you don’t trip
Eli: Trip? OOOOHHH, you mean on a bowling ball.
cookies
November 12, 2008
My mom has fond memories of making homemade chocolate chip cookies, with her mom, as a child. She loved it so much that she continued making them as an adult and passed the love on to me. I, too, have fond memories making cookies with my mom and also with my mema. Yesterday afternoon I started making cookies and asked Eli to help. He is all about helping cook. Then Lucy began to tug on my pants to help, too. She wants to do and have anything that Eli does. So, they both sat on the counter and “helped” me make cookies. They both enjoyed themselves and especially enjoyed getting to sample some dough 🙂 I love moments like that, they are not as common as I would like, but in those moments we are all working together and enjoying it 🙂

this morning
Eli: Mommy, where we going today?
Me: We’re going to school today, buddy.
Eli: Oh. But daddy said…….I don’t know what he said, but…….the words were out of his mouf. The words were not in his mouf, they were out of his mouf. (mouf = mouth)
BIG NEWS
November 4, 2008
Eli peepeed in the potty last night for the very first time!!!! I realize that we still have a little ways to go before throwing out the diapers, but it was such a wonderful moment! We can only hope that it will continue towards the no diaper stage and not backwards 🙂
Congrats to Sean and Elyse
November 1, 2008
Two weeks ago today I celebrated the engagement of Sean and Elyse. Six or so years ago I was asked to lead a small group of 9th grade girls through our church’s youth group. I agreed. I had no idea how far that commitment would take me!!! It has been a blessing to still keep up with a handful of the young ladies as they are now halfway through college and starting new chapters in their lives. So, one of those beautiful young ladies is Elyse and her now fiance’ Sean planned a special surprise engagement that went down a couple of weeks ago and was followed by a dinner to celebrate with her family and close friends. I was honored to be a part of the evening and look forward to their big day next year. God bless and guide you two as you prepare for your marriage. We love you very much!

Trunk or Treat!!!
November 1, 2008
Our church does Trunk or Treat for Halloween each year. I’m sure most of you know what that is, but just in case……. a bunch of people volunteer to park in a row and pop open their trunk full of candy. The cars are in two rows and the kids go from car to car to trunk or treat. Like old school trick or treating except with trunks instead of houses. Anyway, there are cars to go trick or treating, a cupcake walk game, food, a box maze, face painting, adults dressed up all crazy and TONS of kiddos running around. It is always a good time. Hope you had a safe and fun evening, too! There were so many fun and cute costumes!! I wish I could have got pictures of more to show. A big thank you to Nana and Mema for helping keep up with the kiddos. Nathan couldn’t be with us tonight, so they were such a big help for me.
