The big 3-0

July 17, 2010

So, it came and went, ya know, the big 3-0.  No biggie.  It’s weird, but not………make sense?  Ha ha  Anyway, my hubby and good friends, the Loibner’s, arranged a little get together with some friends to help celebrate.  They surprised me.  We had thought we would be in our new house by my birthday and celebrate there, but when that wasn’t an option anymore we had no plan B.  It was a nice surprise and I felt very loved.  Here are some pics from my family lunch and then my surprise night.

Eli took this pic 🙂

And Lucy took this one 🙂

Thank you sweet friends and family for making my birthday so special.  I felt very loved.  You guys are great!!!!

San Antonio

July 17, 2010

We have been busy and in between houses, so I am quite behind!  This post and the next couple should be short and sweet 🙂

So, mid to late June, right after we found out we would not be able to close on our house (that’s a whole other post) the kids and I decided to head to San Antonio to visit my parents for a few days.  I decided to try and make it happen on Friday and one of the things that had to happen in order for us to go was to find respite for our foster babies.  It was a long shot, but I thought it was worth a try.  I was hoping to leave Tuesday and by Monday afternoon I had found respite! YEAH!  The kids and I headed out at lunch time and arrived in TX late that night.  They were super travelers.  Nathan had to work, so it was just the 3 of us traveling.  We went hoping that Big Daddy would be able to score tickets to Sea World, but the contact that provides that for his work was out of pocket 😦  We opted to go to the Children’s Museum downtown.  It was a great place and the kids had a blast.  I forgot my camera, so I only have pics on my phone and haven’t transferred those to my computer yet. BooHoo.  Moving along. We spent time at the pool and of course baseball games.  Here are some pics to document the trip.

That's a dancing taco....oh yeah! Henry the Puffy Taco to be exact.

So, my mom has a Strawberry Shortcake dvd at the house for my kiddos.  It is the new version, you know the one where SS wears jeans with a sweater tied around her waist instead of her dress with frilly apron and green/white striped tights.  Anyway, I have very fond memories of the strawberry show from my childhood. Am I alone on that? I was telling Eli about it and he wanted to watch an old one.  Thanks to modern technology I was able to find the original show on Youtube.  After watching a couple we decided we should make a strawberry dessert and the kids really got into it!  Here are a few pics from our time in the kitchen.

I guess I forgot to take an after picture, but trust me, they just as yummy as they were pretty when they came out of the oven.

deep thoughts by Eli

We were introduced to the show Sid the Science Kid some time ago.  We liked it from the first time we watched.  That is until about 2 months or so ago.  It is not uncommon for our kids to enjoy the PBS morning line up while waiting for me to get everything ready for the day.  Sid comes on 2nd in that line up and we usually watch 3 shows, so it’s smack in the middle.  Out of the blue one day E was very adamant that he was not going to watch that show.  From that day on he was against it.  He would watch it, but the whole time he was pleading with me to change it to something else.  I couldn’t figure out what had changed.  So a couple of days ago we were watching the PBS morning line up and STSK came on.  E began asking for another show and I said, as I have many times before, “Buddy, you used to like Sid, what changed?”  He said, “Nothing”.  I said, “So why don’t you want to watch it?” and he replied “Cause they go to school…..it’s a show about school.  I don’t want to watch a show about school when I’m not at school”  Me, “Huh, never thought about it that way………..”

lot going on

So, lately things have been extra busy to say the least.  We had been talking about selling our house for some time and decided to go for it.  We put it on the market in April and sold it in 7 days.  Our plan was to put our stuff in storage and bunk up with my parents until we found another house.  We ended up finding a house within a few weeks of selling ours.  We decided to keep the plan to put stuff in storage and close mid to late June.  So, we closed on the sale of our house last Monday and had until Wed to be out.  Leading up to this we had already started to pack up and move loads to storage.  I felt like we had a big job ahead of us, but I had no idea.   It was HELL.  Seriously, I think our things have been multiplying over the past few years!  Sometime Friday when I was like “why was I so blind to how big of a job this is!!!!” I realized I have never lived somewhere more than a year or just over a year before, with the exception of my parents house.  AND, I had never done this post children!!!!  Needless to say, we got out, it was a few days late, but we are out!!!  That’s what we’ve been up to…….

With recent weather being so warm, we are so excited to break out the bathing suits and water table to help cool down.  This past weekend we had company and kept a busy pace, but it was fun.  This morning Eli said to me “Now that A isn’t here this are back to normal”  So fun to have a buddy for the weekend, but nice to get back to some “normal” in our day. 🙂 Anyway, we love some watertable play.  Ours was a gift from Gramma right before Lucy was born and Eli enjoys it just as much now as he did 2 (almost 3) years ago.  The way he plays with it has changed, but not the enjoyment.  Lucy and the other kiddos we have hanging around have also enjoyed it.  Well worth it.  We love it.  Here are a few pics.

This past weekend was great, very busy, but great.  My dad, aka big daddy, was in town with his bball team.  So fun that his team plays the Travlers.  We were able to make it to 2 of the 3 games.  I only got pics from Thursday night.  We had some little friends spending the weekend with us and met up with some other friends at the game.  It was a great night.  Everyone did well and no major melt downs.  Such a success 🙂  Here are some pics from the night

Where does the time go.  So much has happened that I haven’t blogged, but I couldn’t let this go by without a post.  About 7 years ago I met a young lady in my small group that I lead for our church youth group.  I actually met a big group of ladies, but this post is about one in particular.  From the beginning she really reached out to be my friend.  As a result I not only saw her for youth group and small group meetings and such, but shared meals with her family, went shopping, etc.  She was around 14 at the time and is now the big 21.  In that time I have had the privilege to see her grow in her relationship with Christ, her friends and eventually with a special young man.  Their relationship is beautiful and real.  God blessed me with allowing me to see Him work in her and their relationship and now we are within a couple of days of this sweet couples wedding day.  Not only do I get to witness this special day, but I have the honor to get to stand up front with her in her bridal party.  AND, little Lu gets to be one of the 2 cute flower girls.  What a special time.  As you know, leading up to a wedding there are showers and little parties.  Most recently I got to spend an evening with the bride to be and her close girlfriends.  We ate dinner, survived some serious storms, played silly, but fun games, giggled, talked and somewhere in there decided sleep should probly be part of the agenda 🙂  Here are a couple pics from the night.  I wish I had more, but I totally slacked on the picture taking that evening in exchange for fun.  Thanks for allowing me to be in on all the fun! I really enjoyed the girls night and all the girls that it included!

A big shout out and CONGRATS to Kaylee and Blake.  I look forward to sharing in your special day and many years after!!!! Love you both!

A few months ago I let Eli take pictures with my camera.  Lucy saw this and wanted so very badly to take pictures, too.  I finally gave in, put the strap around her neck and said a little prayer.  She fell in love with taking pictures.  Both kiddos enjoy it, but Lucy really enjoys it.  So, I thought I would share some of her work with you out there in bloggy land.  I hope you can appreciate her style.  I see great potential 🙂 (Lu took all pics below with the exception of the one of her taking a picture of me taking a picture of her, etc)

So, I have slacked on writing for real! But, rather than be stuck on how far behind I am I will just move forward. K? Okay. So this post is dedicated to Eli and his dressing skillz. I LOVE that he get’s himself dressed these days, but by giving him that responsibility I have had to let go of some of the control. What does that mean? Well, the biggest thing he likes to do is wear things backwards. I put my foot down on underwear, but have allowed him to wear shirts and pants that way if he chooses to, I mean, why not!?! It’s fun for me to see him making choices and expressing himself like this. He is kind of cooky sometimes, but I love every bit of it! So, backwards is the main thing he does with getting dressed, but occasionally he throws something in the mix to spice it up. The other morning I was telling him that it was going to be hot that day so he needed to wear shorts and short sleeved shirt. He went into his room and the next time I saw him he had on a dog costume. I was without words. He looked at me and said, “Look mom, I can wear this dog costume cause it’s short sleeved!” How could I argue with that. I let him wear it all.day.long. We went in public and all. It was kind of freeing to let him wear that all day. And I almost forgot to say that he knew that it was silly. He mentioned to me that if his Nana saw him she would probly giggle.
